BLM Nevada geothermal lease sale nets over USD 9 million in bids on 86 parcels
A BLM geothermal lease sale in Nevada received over USD 9 million in bids on 86 parcels, indicating growing interest on geothermal development in federal lands.
A recently held geothermal lease by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Nevada received a total of USD 9.44 million in bids. Out of 113 parcels offered, 86 parcels received bids. This lease sale sets a new record for Nevada, both in the total amount of bids received and the number of parcels that received winning bids.
The companies that made winning bids and the corresponding number of parcels are as follows:
- Invenergy Geothermal Development LLC – 11 parcels
- Cordillera LLC – 10 parcels
- Skyladder Capital LLC – 10 parcels

The increasing interest in federal lands for geothermal development indicates growing interest in the geothermal industry in the United States. About a year ago, a similar geothermal lease in Nevada received a total of USD 7.86 million in bids for 64 out of 66 parcels. Earlier this year, a geothermal lease sale in California set a record for the highest revenue per acre.
There has also been a noticeable increase in frequency of geothermal lease sales, with Utah, Oregon, California, and Idaho holding lease sales just within the last 6 months. Looking ahead, the next geothermal lease sales scheduled are for Idaho (December 2025 and October 2026) and New Mexico (April 2026).
