The Jollibee Group in the Philippines has switched to 99% renewable power at its manufacturing facilities through geothermal power supply from First Gen.

The Jollibee Group, the owner of the largest fast food chain in the Philippines, recently held a switching on ceremony to celebrate the switch to 99% renewable electricity supply to its commissaries. Part of this supply is 11 MW in equivalent capacity from the geothermal power plants operated by First Gen through its subsidiary Energy Development Corporation (EDC).

“Switching our commissaries to 99% renewable electricity enables us to build a sustainable and reliable energy foundation for our growing operations. This transition reduces our environmental footprint whilst ensuring energy stability – benefits that are meaningful not only today but well into the future,” said Michael Ong, President for Manufacturing and Logistics of the Jollibee Group.

The partnership between the two companies had started back in 2023, when the Jollibee Group tapped First Gent to install 17,000 solar panels at more than 9 MW of capacity at its commissaries and distribution sites. By sourcing geothermal electricity, the Jollibee Group expects to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by over 70% across its covered sites.

The Jollibee Group is only one of many private off-takers that First Gen has secured for its geothermal power generation business.  In the past years, the company has secured similar contracts with retail companies, luxury property developers, an agribusiness group, telecommunications facilities, and a healthcare institution, among others. Such contracts help provide guaranteed and long-term stable revenue streams for geothermal power generation, particularly in power markets where geothermal struggles to compete with low coal prices and other renewables.

“The shift to geothermal and solar electricity reflects the Jollibee Group’s disciplined approach to growth—investing in reliable energy systems that strengthen operations today and support expansion across its Philippine and global footprint. We are proud to support the Jollibee Group as it progresses in its sustainability journey. We look forward to our continued partnership as the group moves from sustainability and decarbonization to a regenerative future,” further commented First Gen Chief Customer Engagement Officer Carlo Vega.
