A preliminary consultation period has been opened for a planned tender for the construction of four exploratory geothermal wells in Croatia, with an estimated procurement value of EUR 35.15 million. One well will be drilled at each of the four sites of Velika Gorica, Osijek, Vinkovci, and Zapresic. The consultation period is open until 31 August 2026
Interested parties may access the relevant tender documents posted in the Electronic Public Procurement website of the Republic of Croatia.
The contracting authority, the Croatian Hydrocarbon Agency (AZU), is inviting all interested entities to submit their comments and suggestions regarding the planned tender. According to the procurement documents, the tender will cover design, procurement of materials, and construction of exploratory wells on a turnkey basis. The work for all four wells has been consolidated in one lot, with the agency explaining reduces the need to coordinate between different entities and the risk of inconsistent results.
Entities who express interest in the preliminary consultation will be notified of new announcements related to the consultation. The contracting authority will consider all comments and proposals from interested entities, and will prepare a report that will also be published in the procurement portal.
A similar tender with the almost the same scope of work was announced earlier this year, but no information can be found on the outcome of this previous tender.
From 2025 to 2026, AZU has undertaken geothermal exploration drilling at each of the four sites – in Velika Gorica, Osijek, Vinkovci, and Zapresic. The results of the drilling campaign were remarkable, with commercially exploitable geothermal resources confirmed at each of the four sites.
