The second geothermal heating project of Aardwarmte Vogelaer, aptly called Aardwarmte Vogelaer 2, has been officially opened in Poeldijk in South Holland, Netherlands. The launch ceremony came several months after the successful commissioning of the project back in December 2025.
With a heating capacity of 26 MWth, the new facility will supply geothermal heat to 32 horticultural companies and about 400 homes in the Westmade Noord residential area in Monster.
Initial plans for a second installation were announced by Aardwarmte Vogelaer back in 2023. Construction of the heating plant and the expanded heating network commenced over the following years. In September 2025, the company announced the completion of drilling of a new geothermal doublet.
Operational issues resulted in the temporary halting of the drilling for the second heating project in December 2023. The second phase of the project was realized with Yeager Energy, which acquired a majority stake in Aardwarmte Vogelaer in early 2025
“We are pleased with this high-yielding geothermal doublet and thank all employees, suppliers, financiers, and of course our customers for their contribution to the realization of Aardwarmte Vogelaer 2,” said Rob Peters, CTO of Yeager Energy.
