Acmepoint signs procurement contract with Ormat for geothermal power plant in Taiwan
Acmepoint Energy Services has signed a procurement contract with Ormat for a 12.5-MW geothermal power project in New Taipei City, Taiwan.
Acmepoint Energy Services (Acmepoint) has signed an equipment procurement contract with Ormat Technologies Inc. (Ormat) primarily for the development of a 12.5-MW geothermal power plant in the Jinshan District of New Taipei City, Taiwan. The company has set a target of commercial operations of the power plant by December 2027.
This announcement follows a previous story about Acmepoint acquiring a geothermal exploration permit in northern Taiwan, with surface exploration activities expected to have started in December 2025.
When operational, the geothermal power plant is expected to generate 100 million kWh of electricity annually, enough to power approximately 30,000 households. Considering the capacity factor advantage of geothermal, the power generation efficiency of the geothermal power plant is estimated to be equivalent to that of a 70-MW solar power facility. It will also be the first geothermal power plant in Taiwan to have a capacity of more than 10 MW.
Acmepoint Energy Services Taiwan operates across four main business areas that include solar energy, resilient grid systems, geothermal development and carbon sequestration. The company combines engineering, procurement and construction capabilities with energy management technologies, enabling it to undertake full-cycle development of renewable-energy projects.
The geothermal sector of Taiwan is still at its nascent stage, but the country holds immense potential because of its geological setting. On March 2026, Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs will again be holding the Taiwan International Geothermal Conference as a platform to foster cooperation and knowledge sharing for the advancement of geothermal.
