Naknek Electric Association Inc. in Alaska has won a $2.9 million federal contract to identify and test the geothermal resource at Pike's Ridge site in King Salmon.

According to a release by the Alaska congressional delegation in Washington earlier this month, “the Naknek Electric Association Inc. has won a $2.9 million federal contract to identify and test the geothermal resource at Pike’s Ridge site in King Salmon for utility scale electric generation and district heating applications. The electric company is using millions in federal money to drill into potential geothermal sources. It hopes it eventually can generate some of its electricity tapping geothermal sources, and cut its reliance on diesel fuel, to stabilize or lower electricity rates.”
