The United Arab Emirates are looking into investments into Indonesia's geothermal energy industry, based on statements made by the Indonesian government after meeting with representatives from UAE's government in Jakarta.

Reported from the Emirates, “The UAE is eying investments in Indonesia’s geothermal industry, the Indonesian Foreign Minister said following a meeting with representatives from the UAE government in Jakarta on Tuesday.

“Indonesia has a huge potential to be the world’s largest geothermal energy user while UAE as chairman of the International Renewable Energy Agency is willing to promote the use of environmentally friendly energy to the world,” Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa told the Xinhua News Agency.

His comments follow a visit by his UAE counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan to the Indonesian capital this week.

During his visit, Sheikh Abdullah raised Indonesia’s efforts to increase the use of renewable energy resources and its bid to become one of the biggest geothermal players in the world.
Indonesia currently ranks third behind the US and the Philippines in terms of geothermal energy generation.

The Indonesian government is looking to attract around $12bn in investment for its geothermal sector and is looking to countries such as the UAE to achieve this.”
