The 5 MW Baru-Colorado project could be the first geothermal power plant in Panama and would provide 5 MW of power to the local population in the province of Chriqui.

La Estrella de Panama reports that former Deputy Administrator Eduardo Reyes presented the potentially first geothermal project in the Central American country of Panama.

The Baru-Colorado geothermal project is currently in exploration phase and has started work in a remote area at the Baru Volcanoe National Park.

The size of the project is expected to be 5 MW and is to provide power to the population of the Chiriqui province. The project still requires the approval by the state administration.

Investors backing $22 million in investment are part of the proposal.
