Bureau of Land Management is overseeing that geothermal operations are not endangering local fauna and flora populations.

Local news from Idaho portray that members of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) went on an official visit last week to the Walker Ranch Geothermal project site.

The purpose of the visit was to oversee the geothermal wells in the land and to confirm that the local wildlife is not being affected by the drilling operations.

According to the local news, hawks have been particularly vulnerable and a restoration process is underway on the area. The newspaper states that “hawks’ preferred habitats include sagebrush and cottonwood areas, which are near the well sites. They tend to nest in single juniper trees or power pole structures. “When the hawks move in and set up a nest, we shut down our operations within a 2,000-foot radius,” Richard Austin, Vice President of Exploration at AMG National Trust Bank said while visit the site.
