The state power company of Bolivia, Ende, plans to begin construction of the Laguna Colorado geothermal power project in February 2009. The project has a size of 100 MW with a cost of US$ 320million. The estimated development time is 3.5 years. The project is located in Sud Lídez province, Potosí department, at 4,900m above sea level near the border of Chile. West Japan Engineering Consultants updated project feasibility studies carried out by Italy’s Enel in 1990-91. Existing wells (four production and one injection) go down about 1,200-1,800 m and have a temperature of 230-260 degrees Celsius.

The project will require 10 new production wells and six additional injection wells. There are possibilities to connect to the northern grid of Chile.
