California pushing for future fueled by renewable energy only

A proposal in front of the Califonia legislature in September aims to generate its entire electricity supply through renewable sources. If approved, this measure would greatly incentivize the supply and implementation of renewable sources through out the most populous state in the U.S. This would set California as a leader in adopting an energy future not only in the U.S. but in the world.

California currently generates approximately 29% of its power from solar, wind, geothermal and other renewable sources in 2016. This adoption of more renewables will come with significant challenges as well. More generating sources will need to be brought online and this can often be a lengthy process when considering design, approval, permitting, and lastly construction. Here geothermal could play an extensive role in providing power when solar is not generating during the night, or wind resources are insufficient.
