The Resources and Reserves Committee of the International Geothermal Association is issuing a Call for Papers for a Special Issue of the peer reviewed, open access journal ‘Geothermal Energy Science’ on the topic of  ‘Estimation and Classification of Geothermal Potential’.

The invitation is for a submission of an abstract for consideration for publication in the Special Issue.

The IGA-RRC especially invites papers on the following topics:

  1. General schemes for classifying geothermal potential
  2. Country specific classification schemes for geothermal potential, with case studies
  3. Critical evaluations of existing classification schemes (including ‘reporting codes’)
  4. Reviews or comparison case studies of different methods for estimating geothermal potential (e.g. stored heat, dynamic modelling, power density)
  5. Case studies of historic estimates of geothermal potential versus actual production
  6. Other topics that fit the general theme of the Special Issue

Before proposing a paper, you should familiarize yourself with the general terms, conditions and guidelines for publication in GtES:

www.geothermal-energy-science.net/submission/general_terms.html

Note in particular that GtES is published using an open access model whereby the author pays for publication on a charge-per-page basis. Papers are then made freely available for reading and download online. The IGA has a limited amount of funding to support publication of this Special Issue and this will be allocated to authors at the discretion of the IGA. While there is no limit on the number of pages for a paper, assume that the IGA will cap any subsidy at about 8 pages per paper and plan your paper accordingly.

The IGA is simultaneously soliciting for papers for another Special Issue of GtES (on ‘Geothermal Play Types’).

In proposing a paper for one Special Issue, we request that you make yourself available to act a peer reviewer for papers submitted to the other Special Issue.

Please reply directly to Graeme Beardsmore (graeme.beardsmore[at]hotdryrocks.com) with a cc to GtES chief editor Horst Rüter (horst.rueter[at]geothermie.de), with your proposed paper title and abstract. The proposed timeline for publication is:

The open access format ensures that papers can be published in soft format as soon as they are finalized.
