A call for presentations has been announced for the Mine Water Geothermal Energy Symposium 2023 taking place on 19-20 April 2023 in a virtual platform.

An open call for contributions has been announced for the Mine Water Geothermal Energy Symposium 2023. This will be a virtual event held over two days, 19 to 20 April 2023, and attendance via Zoom will be free. The deadline for interested presenters will be on 13 January 2023, 4PM.

Online presentations covering any of the following aspects of mine water energy schemes are welcome:

  • Mine water heating, cooling, and thermal storage
  • Case studies – feasibility, investigation, and operational. New schemes and progress updates.
  • Regulation and policy
  • Research and innovation e.g. hydrogeological and heat flow modeling
  • New techniques and products

Request for more information and offers of presentations should be sent to minewaterthermal_iea@bgs.ac.uk.

Talks will be 10 to 15 minutes in length. The event welcomes presenters from all nations. Initial expressions of interest before the deadline are also highly welcome.

The Mine Water Geothermal Energy Symposium is co-organized by the British Geological Survey (BGS), the Coal Authority, and the International Energy Agency – Geothermal Implementing Agreement (IEA-GIA). Since 2021, the event has provided a platform to explore and discuss the developments in using mine water for heating, cooling, and thermal storage. The 2022 edition was attended by 200 participants from over 34 countries.
