Casita San-Cristobal project could start this year in Nicaragua
The 35 MW Casita-San Cristóbal geothermal project by Cerro Colorado Power could be started this year, so a statement by Nicaragua's Minister of Energy and Mines.
At a recent meeting, Nicaragua’s Minister of Energy and Mines, Emilio Rappaccioli, announced that this year about $ 300 million will be invested in the installation of new plants generating electricity from renewables in Nicaragua. From 2014-2018, Nicaragua expects an overall investment of $1.2 billion in electricity generation projects, most of it in renewables.
Today, Nicaragua derives about 40 percent of its electricity from renewables, up about 9 percent ove the year 2011.
