In a recent interview, the president of Isagen suggested that a 50MW geothermal project in Caldas, Colombia is being studied alongside with the border area between Colombia and Ecuador for development.

In a recent article in the El Espectador Newspaper in Colombia, a new potential 50MW geothermal project was unveiled in an interview with Isagen’s president Luis Fernando Rico Pinzón,

The project is being studied in Caldas, near the Nevado del Ruiz, and it is expected to have around 50 megawatts. Mr Rico Pinzón said that Isagen is the leading force in geothermal and in the country and this renewable energy has tremendous potential since it is “clean, renewable and can compete very well in the Colombian market because the opportunity cost of generating geothermal energy is the same as the one for obtaining water”. The President also mentioned that the investment will be around USD $ 1.5 million.

Isagen is also trying to work out an agreement with the Ecuadorian government to develop geothermal technology in the border area between both countries.
