Minister of Foreign Affairs, Camillo Gonsalves says that by 2018, St. Vincent and the Grenadines will have a working geothermal plant generating between 10 and 15MW of power.

In a recent Town Hall meeting, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Camillo Gonsalves states that currently they use 20 MW of electricity on daily basis, where only 4 MW come from hydro, when available and the rest from costly diesel that needs to be imported.

“Geothermal energy (…) is going to transform St. Vincent and the Grenadines” said the Minister.

He also mentioned that by 2018 it is expected to have a geothermal power plant generating between 10 and 15 MW of power, lowering the need to import diesel.
