DOE funding for Boulder based turbine developers

Two Colorado based firms receive funding from DOE for their work on power generation technology for geothermal heat. The firms are Aqwest LLC and Cool Energy.
Among several other companies that recently have received DOE funding for power generation technology, there are two companies of interest as they are developing technology for power generation from low heat geothermal sources.
Aqwest LLC in Larkspur is developing a magnetocaloric generator for production of electric power from geothermal heat at high thermodynamic efficiency. The project will help reduce dependence on fossil fuels as well as the cost of electric power and greenhouse-gas emissions.
Cool Energy Inc. is working on a low-temperature Stirling engine for geothermal electricity generation. The system will be designed for geothermal wells and oil and gas wells. If widely deployed, this approach could replace up to 100 fossil-fuel power plants.
