The geothermal power project on the Caribbean island state of Dominica will progress this June with flow tests of a drilled production well, as announced by the government.

Reported locally, the geothermal project in Dominica in the Caribbean will start flow tests on June 1, 2014. The tests are aimed to determine the energy potential of the drilled production well.

In a meeting with residents of the Roseau Valley on May 1, 2014, permanent secretary in the Ministry of Public Works, Energy and Ports, Lucien Blackmoore said this test is the fourth of its kind that will be done.

“The flow test, is not going to be the very first flow test we’re going to do, it’s going to be the fourth…we have drilled four exploratory wells already”.

“But all in the process of keeping very much connected to the community, we want to keep you abreast at every step of the way, what is involved, how we intend to go about it and of course to open up for your ideas, your suggestions and to clarify any misgivings or misunderstanding that you may have,” Mr Blackmoore said.

Alexis George, who is the project officer at the Geothermal Management Unit, noted that the aim of the upcoming flow test is to find out the generation capacity of that well, that is how many MW can be obtained from that well.”
