The German project at Geretsried has reached a depth of 4,200 meters in its drilling campaign, with a target depth of 4,680 meters or 15,300 feet.

Local news in Germany report on the progress at the geothermal project in Geretsried.

The project has drilled the third part of its well from 2,900 to 4,200 meters and has already piped and cemented it. Currently the drilling company prepares the fourth part of the drilling, which is expected to start next week.

The first part of the well was drilled vertically to a depth of 3,000 meters. Then it changed to directional drilling with the goal to reach promising parts of the subsurface. The water carrying reservoir is expected at a depth of 4,680 meters (15,300 feet). There the developer hopes to achieve a rather long distance through the directional well to reach an expected flow rate of 100 kg/ second.
