East Java sees geothermal as the most relevant renewable energy

Citing how large the potential of Indonesia and East Java is for geothermal development, East Java Deputy Governor Emil Elestianto Dardak considers geothermal energy as the most relevant form of renewable energy.
Geothermal energy is the most relevant form of renewable energy, according to East Java Deputy Governor Emil Elestianto Dardak. This statement was made during the Instrumentation Talk Show, with the theme “Development of Renewable Energy Technology”, which was held in the Main Meeting Room of the ITS Rectorate Building on March 24.
“As much as 40% of the total geothermal energy in the world is in Indonesia”, added Dardak. “In East Java, there are 13 potential sites for geothermal development.”
These 13 sites include Gunung Lawu (195 MWe), Ngebel (165 MWe), Gunung Pandan (60 MWe), Arjuno-Welirang (110 MWe), Songgoriti (35 MWe), Iyang-Argopuro (295 MWe), Blawan-Ijen (110 MWe), Raung (23 MWe), Krucil-Tiris (74 MWe), Bromo-Tengger (58 MWe), Gunung Wilis (50 MWe), Arjosar (18.5 MWe), and Mlati (13.8 MWe).
Aside from geothermal energy, East Java has developed and will continue to develop other forms of renewable energy, including 525 MW of hydroelectric power, 7907 MW of wind power, 3420 MW of bioenergy, 10335 MW of solar power, and 1200 MW of wave energy.
As part of the plans to develop renewable energy, the Provincial Governor will collaborate with several private and state universities, one of which is the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember Surabaya (ITS).
With the discovery of several new renewable energy alternatives, the Deputy Governor is hoping that the potential can be utilized optimally and that energy can be made available to the people who are still outside the scope of PLN. By developing renewable energy, the region can also enjoy reduced air pollution and waste generation.
