EBN offers technical expertise and experience to The Hague Geothermal Company while also representing public interest towards development of sustainable heat.

State-owned Energie Baheer Nederland BV (EBN) has announced that they have become a shareholder of Haagse Aardgoot BV (The Hague Geothermal Heat), a company that is developing several geothermal energy projects in The Hague region in the Netherlands. This is via the acquisition of 50% of the shares held by Energiefonds Den Haag (ED).

EBN joins Perpetuum Energy Partners BV, Hydreco Geomec BV, and Energiefonds Den Haag as shareholders of Haagse Aardgoot. Among others, Haage Aardgoot is the parent company of the geothermal project Aardgoot Leyweg BV (HAL). We first reported on the start of the HAL project back in 2020.

As a knowledge partner, EBN offers its knowledge, expertise, and extensive experience to aiding in the portfolio development of the company. The entry of EBN also frees up more money from Energiefonds Den Haag for subsequent investments on sustainable energy.

Geothermal energy in combination with heat networks forms an important link in the heat transition of the municipality of The Hague. Projects such as HAL are therefore of crucial importance. ”Our accession to The Hague Geothermal Heat offers us the opportunity to use our knowledge and experience of the subsurface and also to learn for future projects. This allows us to accelerate the application of geothermal energy in the built environment in the Netherlands in a safe and responsible manner.” commented EBN Geo-Energy Program Manager Herman Exalto.

EBN participates on behalf of the State in The Hague Geothermal Energy and thereby connects public and private parties. “Energiefonds Den Haag is pleased with the accession of EBN. EBN not only provides knowledge of the geothermal sector, but also represents the public interest. This is important because the extraction and supply of clean heat is in the interest of all of us. It is about local, sustainably generated heat.” said Nico van Est of Energiefonds Den Haag.
