EDC'S BINHI program, which has rehabilitated thousands of hectares of forest land in the Philippines, has been awarded the best CSR program in a recent CSR Guild Awards.

Energy Development Corporation (EDC) has been awarded the best corporate social responsibility program for the BINHI forest restoration project at the League of Corporate Foundation’s 1st CSR Guild Awards. EDC is currently the largest geothermal power producer with four project sites located all over the country.

The BINHI program was launched in 2008 with the objective of saving threatened native tree species. By 2018, all of these species had been located and propagated in the company’s geothermal facility in Negros Oriental and in Antipolo, Metro Manila.

As part of the program, up to 9323 hectares of forest land surrounding EDC project sites have been rehabilitated by planting 6.4 million seedlings. Moreover, EDC has empowered local farmer communities by incentivizing their participation in the rehabilitation and maintenance of BINHI sites.
