Geothermal heating now operational at Plessis-Robinson and Chatenay-Malabry, France
The geothermal heating network serving the communes of Chatenay-Malabry and Le Plessis-Robinson in Paris has officially started operations.
The Coriance Group, through subsidiary Reseau Terra Confort, has announced the start of operations of the geothermal heating system serving the communes of Plessis-Robinson and Chatenay-Malabry, part of the Greater Paris Area in France. The heating network is expected to distribute up to 133 GWh of sustainable heating per year, thus avoiding the emissions of 31,500 tonnes of CO2, which is equivalent to the emissions of 26,520 vehicles.
The start of drilling for the Terra Confort heating network was announced back in October 2025. The geothermal heating plant now harnesses heat from the Dogger aquifer, using thermal waters at 68 ºC temperature from depths between 1600 to 1700 meters. With the geothermal heating plant operational, the Terra Confort heating network is now operating on 88% renewable energy.
A total of EUR 96 million investment went into the project, which funded the creation of 37.5-kilometer distribution network, the construction of the geothermal heating plant, drilling of the wells, and the installation and renovation of 213 substations. The project benefited from financial support of EUR 29.25 million from the French Agency for Ecological Transition (ADEME) as part of the Heat Fund and another EUR 1.9 million from the Greater Paris Metropolitan Area.
The work was also supported by a communication strategy to engage with the local communities. An educational bungalow welcomes 950 visitors through the course of drilling and construction, including 285 schoolchildren and 451 local residents.
“Providing the people of Chatenay with a source of district heating that is both ecological, modern, and affordable is a priority. With geothermal energy, we are putting our city on the path to energy transition and preparing a sustainable future for future generations,” said Carl Segaud, Mayor of Chatenay-Malabry and President of Vallee Sud – Grand Paris.
