US Senators Dean Heller & James Risch have introduced S. 562, the Geothermal Exploration Opportunities Act to fast-track geothermal permitting processes.

Lengthy permitting processes are a common complaint that plagues the geothermal industry and commonly quoted as one of the issues that slows down development since they usually require years to get through.

ThinkGeoEnergy had covered this particular topic earlier last month, in particular Dean Heller’s support for geothermal permitting reform. Now Renewable Energy World (REW) informs that “Senators Dean Heller (R-NV) and James Risch (R-ID) have introduced S. 562, the Geothermal Exploration Opportunities Act (GEO Act) to expedite permitting for exploratory drilling for geothermal resources.”

“The legislation will simplify the review process for initial exploration activities and give developers the tools they need to unleash Nevada’s abundant geothermal potential,” Heller said in a statement according to REW.

New legislation that can actively reduce the amount of time required for permitting processes will be greatly appreciated by the geothermal industry as a whole.
