Enel Green Power reports a new absolute record in geothermal power generation, having increased its geothermal power generation to 5,820 GWh in 2015.

Following the announcement of its annual results for 2015, Enel Green Power now reports that it has achieved the best result ever in over one hundred years.

For the company, the year “2016 began with a new absolute record for production from geothermal sources in 2015: its 34 operating geothermal plants produced 5,820 GWh, exceeding the previous record in 2014, when production had amounted to 5,548 GWh.

The new production record from geothermal sources in Italy accounts for an increase of nearly 300 GWh compared to 2014. The result was made possible by the commissioning of Bagnore 4, the technological optimisation of facilities with plant efficiency exceeding 98% and the mine shafts managed by Enel Green Power, whose geothermal activities respect the environment and the balance of the geothermal cycle.

The oldest geothermal complex in the world, managed by Enel Green Power in the Italian provinces of Siena, Pisa and Grosseto, includes know-how and excellence that EGP exports all over the world. Out of the 34 geothermal power plants, 16 are in the province of Pisa; 9 in the province of Siena with 10 overall production groups; 9 are in the province of Grosseto with 11 overall production groups. The province of Pisa has a geothermal production of 2958 GWh, the highest out of the three Tuscan provinces, while the area of Siena produced 1478 GWh and Grosseto 1384 GWh.

‘The record in 2015 confirms that we are on the right track,’ commented Enel Green Power geothermal head Massimo Montemaggi. ‘We are working together with regional and local institutions, businessmen and traders’ associations to move along the path we started to follow, ifurther increasing the local benefits In developing a true and proper speciall geothermal district to confirm Tuscany’s global leadership in the geothermal industry.’

The nearly six billion KWh produced in Tuscany meet the average annual needs of over two million households and provide heat to some 9,700 residential users, 6 businesses in the geothermal areas, some 30 hectares of greenhouses, including 2 dairies, fuelling an important agricultural, gastronomic and touristic supply chain.”
