The European Heating and cooling in the European Energy Transition Event will take place on Brussels 25-27 February 2015 with a side event on Energy security, affordability and growth in the EU Energy Union: the role of renewables

Two events are coming up next week in Europe and the deadline for registration ends today. Make sure that if you are planning to attend, please sign up as soon as possible:

1. Energy security, affordability and growth in the EU Energy Union: the role of renewables

February 25, 2015

16:30-18.00

The European Biomass Association (AEBIOM), the European Geothermal Energy Council (EGEC) and the European Solar Thermal Industry Federation (ESTIF), representing the European Renewable Heating sector, are organizing a side event on February 25th, 2015, before the Commission’s Conference on Heating and Cooling in the European Energy Transition (26-27 February).

Among his top priorities, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker indicated his willingness for Europe’s Energy Union to become the world number one in renewable energy.  While the European Commission is currently working on defining the framework of the future EU Energy Union, renewable energy projects keep developing, including in the heat sector.

In combination with energy moderation measures, these concrete initiatives allow answering to the challenges the EU is facing today including security and competitiveness. Renewables are part of the EU energy landscape today and will definitively have a role to play in the near and long term future.

The objective of this side event is to present 3 concrete examples of switch from fossil fuel to renewable heat  energy (geothermal; biomass; solar thermal energy) and explain how these contribute to meet EU Energy Union objectives (including energy security and decarbonisation) while allowing to save money and to boost jobs and investments.

The conference will comprehensively explore the heating and cooling sector, including its role in achieving the EU’s climate and energy objectives. It will initiate debate and build consensus on how to ensure full participation of the heating and cooling sector – which accounts for half of the EU’s energy consumption – in the energy transition It is the opportunity to discuss with European and national policy makers, representatives from industry, businesses and consumers’ representative bodies, professional organisations, NGOs, local and national authorities, academia, research institutions and relevant international organisations, on the issues facing the heating and cooling sector.
