Fervo Energy (Fervo) has announced that its flagship Cape Station geothermal development in Beaver County, Utah, has synchronized to the grid and is exporting electricity for the first time. This marks the first time that a greenfield Enhanced Geothermal System (EGS) project has supplied electricity to the grid, thus culminating years of subsurface and surface development, drilling, and project financing.
Electricity has been generated from the first 33-MW GeoBlock of the 100 MW Cape Station Phase 1 development. The contractual Commercial Operations Date (COD) of this GeoBlock is expected by 1 October 2026. Fervo will continue ramping up production from its first GeoBlock while commissioning the two remaining GeoBlocks, which are expected to reach contractual COD by 1 January 2027.
The next Cape Station phase, at an additional 400 MW capacity, is already under construction, with an expected COD in 2028. Fully contracted offtake at Cape Station sits at approximately 900 MW, enough to power the equivalent of nearly 1 million U.S. homes annually.

The achievement comes just over four months after Fervo’s May 2026 initial public offering. In more recent months, Fervo subsequently announced technical drilling milestones and the signing of a 396-MW power purchase agreement (PPA) with Google – the largest enhanced geothermal PPA signed to date.
