Some 26 national and international students graduated from the Diploma course in geothermal energy taught in El Salvador at the Regional Training Center, established by El Salvador's National Energy Council, the University of El Salvador and company LaGeo.

With the certification of the first 26 national and foreign professionals, the authorities of the National Energy Council (CNE), University of El Salvador (UES) and LaGeo, finished the first edition of the Specialization Diploma in Geothermal Energy. The program established and funded in 2012, seeks to position El Salvador as a leader in technical and scientific training of human resources for the exploitation of geothermal resources and represents the first steps to become a Regional Geothermal Research and Training.

This diploma is part of the training component of the technical cooperation provided by the Bank and the Nordic Development Fund (NDF) for the consolidation of a Regional Training Center.

During the five months of the diploma program, students were trained on topics such as geological exploration, geochemistry and geophysics, and also received training in the field through site visits at LaGeo (only company in El Salvador that produces geothermal power) and the study of the techniques of drilling geothermal wells, among others.

The course had a national team of international teachers (LaGeo, UES and other institutions) and from Italy and Germany with professional and academic experience in the geothermal sector.
