GEOLAC 2021 – “How can Latin America maximize the potential of Lithium?”
An interesting panel at the upcoming GEOLAC congress, Sept 8-10, 2021 will be looking at lithium extraction in the Latin American context.
This week on September 9, 2021, Carlos Jorquera, the editor of our Spanish language platform PiensaGeothermia will be moderating a panel “How can Latin America maximize the potential of Lithium?” at the 8th Geothermal Congress for Latin America & the Caribbean (GEOLAC).

Last year at GEOLAC 2020, he moderated the same panel which then reviewed topics related to technology, chemistry, reservoirs and the development of the first pilots. This year, the panel will discuss results from projects in development and current key aspects in the development of Lithium extraction.
The panel “How can Latin America maximize the potential of Lithium?”, will address regulatory, market and technology issues. Global lithium leaders and researchers will discuss the technologies and applications that make geothermal lithium mining a viable economical solution. Experts predict what this could mean for the lithium sector in Latin America.
Three speakers will participate in the panel:

- Dr. Horst Kreuter, CEO of Vulcan Energie Ressoourcen GMBH
- Mauricio González, from the Chilean Ministry of Mining.
