Apple Corporation has negotiated power purchase agreements of up to 75 MW with SRP, an Arizona based utility, for geothermal power to supply a new Apple production facility in Arizona, U.S.

There have been news again and again on computer/ data hosting companies such as Apple going for greener ways to fulfill there tremendous energy needs.

Apple, e.g. was said to be utilizing geothermal heat pumps for cooling purposes at some of their facilities, but now there seem to be news on Apple actually looking to source geothermal power.

The company has entered into negotiations with Salt River project, one of the largest utilities in the state of Arizona in the U.S. for the supply of power sourced from renewable energy sources. SRP has a number of power purchase agreements with renewable energy developers for up to 75 MW in power generation capacity that could fuel parts of the demand of the new facility by Apple being built in Arizona.

Now, Apple has reached an agreement with SRP for geothermal power sourced from geothermal projects in Utah and California. This likely means the projects of Ormat and Cyrq Energy in those states.
