Following seismic events, the city council of St. Gallen in Switzerland has now decided to continue with the project with finalizing the first drilling phase.

Following seismic events and a temporary stop of activities, the geothermal project in the city of St. Gallen has announced that the project can continue to proceed.

In an announcement it is reported that the city council has decided to continue with the project and that the first drilling phase of the project shall be finished in the coming weeks. After that the drilling rig will be dismantled and the well be secured.

The results of the first drilling phase will then provide sufficient details on how to proceed further with the project.

The following steps are now planned:

  • data collection from a mess sensor that is to be retrieved from the well,
  • preparation of production test and long-term stabilization
  • production test
  • conservation and analysis.

The pressure changes in the well are expected to be kept under control, further seismic events cannot be excluded. If there should be extraordinary events, the city council could at any point decide to change procedures and stop the project.
