Hawaiian utility HELCO has chosen Boston Pacific Co. to oversee its bidding process for the development of new 50 MW of geothermal power generation capacity.

As reported here earlier, the Hawaiian utility, Hawaii Electric Light Co. (HELCO) has announced a tender for the development of 50 MW of geothermal power generation capacity on Hawaii Island.

Now – as reported by the Honolulu Star, the state has chosen a Washington, DC based company to oversee the bidding process.

Boston Pacific Co., was previously hired by the state last year for managing the process of a tender for 300 MW of renewable energy development in Hawaii, as well as an undersea cable to link Oahu island with neighboring islands electrical grids.

Boston Pacific has a strong experience having monitored more than 150,000 MW of energy procurement projects in the U.S., specialising in serving electricity and natural gas sectors.

“Boston Pacific’s role in both Hawaii projects is as an “independent observer,” a position that the state Public Utilities Commission requires in major cases to ensure the bidding process is fair and adheres to state guidelines. Independent observers receive bids, evaluate them and make recommendations to the utility.”
