In a recent article, a scientist of Foro Energy, a technology startup, describes how his company has successfully applied high-power fiber laser for drilling through ultra-hard crystalline rock.
In the ongoing attempt to decrease time and cost for drilling efforts in the oil and gas industry, but also for geothermal there have been several companies working on technologies that could achieve that.
Laser drilling has been one of those technologies being looked at. In an article in SPIE, Mark Zediker of Foro Energy provides a look back at the history of laser drilling and the successful application of high-power fiber laser for drilling through ultra-hard crystalline rock.
