At worst, the controversy behind Site C in BC, Canada is bringing in some much needed attention to geothermal as a viable contender.

Geothermal energy has suffered and currently still suffers from a relative lack of awareness, at least when considering is a viable contender, not only to other renewables but to traditional fossil fuel based technologies.

This is an uphill battle that Canada has been enduring for a long time. A clear example is the Site C hydro project to which CanGEA has been clearly stating that a geothermal alternative is viable and possible.

This was recently covered by The Vancouver Sun alongside Borealis Geopower project to develop two geothermal projects in BC.

Both Craig Dunn from Borealis Geopower and Alison Thompson are quoted in the article as advocates for geothermal development in the country.

At least, thanks to the controversy behind Site C’s alternatives, geothermal is getting some prime time in the country’s news and raising awareness.
