With large participation, an exciting program and a variety of field trips the Iceland Geothermal Conference concluded last week.

Thursday, last week, the Iceland Geothermal Conference concluded in Iceland. With around 700 participants from 50 countries, it was the largest geothermal event ever held in Iceland.

The event featured a series of side events and meetings that made the event a rather useful one for everyone attending. In the days before the conference, the World Bank’s ESMAP program held a two-day workshop, which saw the announcement of a new report on risk mitigation, we reported on this before.

The program featured a variety streams, covering topics from finance, operation, multiple use scenarios and much much more.

There were also several field trips to geothermal power plants, district heating and the Reykjanes Geothermal Resources Park.

The event further featured a series of keynote speakers at the event, including Lilja Alfredsdóttir, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Iceland; Rachel Kyte, CEO & Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Sustainable Energy for All; Dr. Hördur Arnarson, the CEO of Landsvirkjun; Ásgeir Margeirsson, CEO of HS Orka; Prof. Michael Porter of Harvard Business School, Adnan Z. Amin, Director General of IRENA and a closing speech by Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, the President of Iceland.

We will soon publish a series of pictures taken at the event, as well as video interviews with participants.
