Under the EEA Grants program, three Icelandic companies receive funding for geothermal district heating projects in the cities of Oradea and Timisoara in Romania.

Under the EEA Grants program, five Icelandic companies have received funding of $14 million for geothermal and hydro power projects in Romania, with a total investment volume for this projects of $35 million.

The two projects in the cities of Oradea and Timosoara involve the development of geothermal district heating and are expected to have a huge impact locally.

Engineering firm Mannvit and ISOR from Iceland will be working on the Timisoara district heating project. Iceland Geothermal Engineering will be participating in the Oradea project.

“This is incredibly positive for us and plays a big role in connection with the various geothermal projects we are working on in Central Europe. We will now go directly into preparation of our work and expect to start construction in the fourth quarter of this year.”, so Eyjólfur Árni Rafnsson, the Managing Director of Mannvit.
