Innargi signs agreement for potential sites of geothermal heating plants in Poznan, Poland
Agreements for the use of two municipal plots for future geothermal heating plants have been signed between Innargi and the City of Poznan, Poland.
Danish geothermal heating developer Innargi has signed a usufruct agreement with the City of Poznan in Poland for two municipal plots where geothermal heating plants could be built in the future.
One site is located in the eastern part of Poznan, in Franów, in an undeveloped area behind a shopping center. The other is in the southern part of the city, in Staroleka, and its surroundings are primarily commercial and single-family homes.
There is a third plot of land where a geothermal heating plant could be built is located in Kopanino and is owned by project partner Veolia. Historically, a coal-fired heating plant operated in this area, which was shut down and demolished. A modern gas-fired heating plant was built on the freed-up land in 2022, and a geothermal installation could be built next to it.
“We are delighted to have taken another step closer to implementing the geothermal project in Pozna?. We are getting closer to Pozna? becoming a pioneer in utilizing geothermal heat on such a scale in Poland, proving that geothermal energy can be an excellent complement to the energy mix of the future: a source that is emission-free, local, weather-independent, and climate-friendly,” said Miko?aj Gajsler, Head of Business Development at Innargi Poland.
“The common goal of all our investments is to build a diversified and decentralized heating system, which has the potential to soon become a model for the energy transition. The geothermal project is one of the key elements of the plan to phase out the use of coal for district heating in Pozna?. I am pleased that, thanks to the City Hall’s commitment, we are one step closer to implementing this ambitious project and utilizing geothermal energy in the city’s heating system,” added Jakub Patalas, CEO of Veolia in Pozna?.
The agreement follows seismic surveys conducted in Poznan in March 2025. Based on the results, as analyzed by specialists from Innargi, indications of a viable geothermal resource are promising. The geothermal heating project in Poznan has been made possible by a strategic partnership between Innargi and Veolia, announced in 2023.

“These are areas that were already designated for geothermal energy in the ‘Study of Conditions and Directions of Development of the City of Pozna?,’ which was confirmed in the General Plan,” said Jacek Ja?kowiak, Mayor of Pozna?, referring to the municipal plots included in the usufruct agreement.
“When the Municipal Urban Planning Office designated new residential districts in this document, out of concern for the environment and air quality in the city, Veolia’s recommendations regarding the possibility of supplying these areas with heat were also taken into account.”
