The Italian Geothermal Union has welcomed Bruno Della Vedova as new President, seeing the promotion and contribution of geothermal for the energy transition as stimulating and demanding.

Following in the footsteps of Adele Manzella, the previous president of the Italian Geothermal Union (L’Unione geotermica italiana, UGI) Adele Manzella, the organisation has chosen Bruno Della Vedova, senior researcher at the National Research Council in Pisa,  Bruno Della Vedova.

The Italian Geothermal Union is an independent association and non-profit that aims to promote the development of geothermal energy in Italy.

Former Vice President of the Trieste International Foundation for the Progress and Freedom of Sciences (Fit), Professor of Applied Geophysics at the Engineering Department at the University of the same city and member of the Board of Directors at the International Geothermal Association (IGA, Della Vedova arrives now at the helm of the UGI for the three-year period 2021-24.

“Strengthening and relaunching geothermal energy as a qualifying contribution to the energy transition is a particularly stimulating and demanding task for the next few years”, comments the new president of the Italian geothermal community.

Together with Della Vedova, all the leaders of the Geothermal Union were renewed , passing from an elective assembly, bringing five candidates to the Board of Directors – Paolo Basile, Riccardo Corsi, Bruno Della Vedova, Renato Papale, Giampaolo Vecchieschi – and three others to the College auditors (Claudio Alimonti, Gianluca Gola, Maurizio Vaccaro).

All the elected members agreed to be part of the respective collegiate bodies of the UGI, and after an extensive and in-depth discussion, the figures provided for by the Statute were unanimously appointed (with the abstention of the interested parties): Bruno Della Vedova Bruno as the new president Ugi, Riccardo Corsi as vice president and Renato Papale as treasurer.

Also unanimously, the Governing Council proposed to Gola to take on the position of Secretary General of the UGI, with the part-time support of a researcher / doctoral student from each of the 4 regional centers: North-East, based at the University of Padua; North-West, based at the University of Genoa; Italian center, based at the University of Rome; and southern Italy and islands, based at the University of Naples Parthenope.

We congratulate our good friend Bruno to this appointment and wish him all the best in this new role.
