KenGen confirms Rebecca Miana as Managing Director and CEO following a competitive hiring process following the departure of former CEO Albert Mugo.

At a meeting of the Board of Directors of KenGen, Rebecca Miano was confirmed as first female Managing Director and CEO of the state-owned power operator in Kenya, as reported by Business Daily.

A lawyer by profession, Rebecca Miano has been acting as interim CEO since August this year following the departure of the former CEO of the company, Albert Mugo.

With more than 90 applicants for the job, the hiring process was quite competitive.

“The Board is confident that Mrs Miano’s skills and wealth of experience, having worked in the company for the past 19 years, will help drive KenGen forward and position it as a leader in the energy sector,” KenGen Chairman Joshua Choge said in a statement.

Until her appointment, Ms Miano was responsible for driving the corporate governance agenda at the company. She joined the State-owned power producer in 1998 and worked in various roles including senior legal officer, assistant company secretary and legal affairs director.

Mrs Miano holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree with Honors, a Diploma in Law and post-graduate studies in Comparative Law. She is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya (ICPSK) and the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).
