The city of Los Angeles has signed a 20 year power purchase agreement for $99/ MWh with Ormat to buy 13.7 MW of power from the new Wild Rose geothermal power plant under construction in northern Nevada.

Reported this week from California, the city of Los Angeles – through its Department of Water and Power, has announced it is going to buy electricity from a new geothermal power plant in northern nevada.

It plans to purchase 13.71 MW of power from the Wild Rose Geothermal Plant near Gabbs, Nevada, starting in January 2014.

The deal involves a 20 year power purchase agreement, involving the municipal electric utility of Burbank and cost about $99/ MWh ($0.099 per kWh) for about $11 million per year.

The deal has been signed with the owner of the project, Ormat Technologies. The company is currently building the 35 MW plant in Mineral County, Nevada and received approval from the Bureau of Land Management only a few months ago. The plant is expected to start operation late this year.
