Louis E. Capuano, Jr. has been elected by his peers on the GRC Board of Directors to be the next President of the Geothermal Resources Council (GRC).
ThinkGeoEnergy would like to congratulate Louis E. Capuano, Jr. for his election to be president of the Geothermal Resources Council (GRC). He has been elected by his peers on the GRC Board of Directors to be the next President of the GRC. He replaces Richard Campbell, who remains on the Board of Directors as Past President.
Lou Capuano earned a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1971. That same year, he joined Signal Oil and Gas Company in Louisiana as a drilling engineer, working on land rigs, inland barge rigs, offshore platforms, jack-up drilling rigs, and semi-submersibles. In 1974 he was asked to move to Santa Rosa to establish the geothermal division office of Signal Oil in The Geysers area of northern California. The division later evolved into Burmah Oil and Gas and then Aminoil when later acquired by RJ Reynolds.
From 1977-1979 Capuano was drilling manager for Thermogenics, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Hughes Aircraft Corporation. In 1980, he founded ThermaSource, Inc., working there for over 30 as the CEO and President. In 2012, Lou founded Capuano Engineering in Santa Rosa, California, a geothermal engineering company specializing in all forms of geothermal resources, both domestic and international.
Lou has been a member of the Geothermal Resources Council since 1975. He has also served on the GRC Board of Directors since 1991 and the GRC Executive Committee since 1995. He was also GRC President from 1999-2000. He was awarded the prestigious Aidlin Award in 2002 for his contributions to the GRC and to the development of geothermal resources.
Lou Capuano commented on his election: “I will work to unify the industry by encouraging government cooperation in areas of exploration, project development and funding as well as work to speed up the development process. Over the years, I have seen geothermal energy become a vital base load energy source, and it is only through our continued support of our industry organizations and reaching out to the public that we have achieved this present status. I feel that I can continue to support the Council to achieve even higher levels of respect in the energy markets.”
