The geothermal project on Montserrat is about to finish the drilling of its second well having reached about half of the estimated target depth.

Reported earlier this week, the UK Caribbean territory of Montserrat is about to finish the drilling of the second geothermal well drilled on the island.

The project is now preparing to test the first well drilled successfully earlier this year. The second well has now reached a depth of 1,184 meters, a little bit more than half the depth of the first well.

The well, so the news, is currently being lined with steel casement pipes and cementing has already begun.

“We anticipate that over the next three weeks drilling will be completed and we will continue monitoring the warm-up and making preparations to test both wells,” the government said in a release.

Montserrat saw the beginning of the geothermal project with drilling done by Icelandic company Iceland Drilling.
