Nevada Geothermal Power ups output at Faulkner 1 plant

Alexander Richter 26 Dec 2009

Nevada Geothermal Power announces that the company's Faulkner 1 plant's net output has been increased 3MW to 30.5MW to allow for increased brine production and plant output.

Based on a release by the company, “Nevada Geothermal Power has increased production from its flagship Faulkner 1 power plant and reports positive interim results from its current output-optimisation drilling programme.

The company said Faulkner 1’s net output has been increased 3MW to 30.5MW to allow for increased brine production and plant output.

NGP is concurrently drilling a moderate-diameter injection test well northeast of the current production field and has constructed a pipeline to inject 500 gallons per minute of spent geothermal brine from the plant into an existing well. Additional wells are planned in the programme, which is funded out of a recent $57.9m grant from the US Department of the Treasury.

‘NGP is very pleased to have achieved a new benchmark level of production of over 30MW of clean renewable power from our showcase geothermal power plant,’ said Brian Fairbank, president & CEO of NGP. ‘Interim drilling results forecasting new deep injection capability at Well 55-15 will lead to significantly increased power production and bring us closer to our ultimate goal of 47MW for the Faulkner 1 plant.’

NGP estimates a potential of over 200MW from its Blue Mountain, Pumpernickel, Black Warrior and Crump Geyser projects.”
