French group has received a new permit for geothermal exploration in the Auvergne region in South Central France.

Announced earlier this week, French firm Fonroche Géothermie and Electerre de France have received a new geothermal exploration permit.

The permit area is located in the Puy-de-Dome region covering an area of 827 square kilometers. The area is expected to provide a high heat temperature of temperatures of 150 degrees Celsius and more.

The plan would be to drill wells to a depth from 3,500 to 5, 500 meters. These geothermal reservoirs must demonstrate temperatures and rates sufficient to justify the technical and economic feasibility of a geothermal power plant ,

The company Electerre France was awarded the exploration license Sancy in the department of Puy-de-Dome in July 2014. As for Fonroche Geothermal, the company was awarded several licenses in recent months, including the Val de Drôme and Vistrenque in March 2014, of Cézallier in July 2014, or the license of Allier-Andlot in August 2014.
