Contact Energy is expecting to finalize the $604 million 166 MW Te Mihi geothermal power plant by 2013.

Radio New Zealand reported yesterday on the financial results of New Zealand’s Contact Energy. As part of the release of financial results, the CEO of the company, Dennis Barnes” reported that the Te Mihi geothermal power station, on the Wairakei steamfield, “is due to be completed in 2013 and is expected to generate 166 MW of power.”

The plant has a cost tag of NZ$750 (US$ 604 million) and is currently being built by a consortium, reported on yesterday.

Contact Energy is majority owned by Australian Origin Energy, that has a great interest in geothermal not only through its affiliation and ownership in New Zealand, but also in projects in Chile, Indonesia and the Geodynamics EGS project in Australia.
