Ormat's Don A. Campbell geothermal plant in Nevada helps to provide continuous base-load power to the city of Los Angeles, contributing to the ambitious 33 percent by 2020 clean energy goal of the city.

A recent article by Renewable Energy World provides some great insight into how the Don A. Campbell geothermal plant by Ormat in Mineral County, Nevada contributes to the ambitious 33 percent clean energy by 2020 goal by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP).

LADWP is “the largest municipal utility in the United States, serving over four million residents. It was founded in 1902 to supply water to residents and businesses in Los Angeles and surrounding communities.”

LADWP currently buys 13.7 MW of the first 16 MW phase of the Ormat plant, which started operation last month. The remaining part goes to the City of Burbank, California.

The plant thereby contributes 1.1% of the overall clean energy goal, so LADWP.
