In a pre-publication of a draft "Regulation for Peru's geothermal sector", Peru's Ministry of Mines and Energy announces "substantial changes" to the Law on Geothermal Resources.

In a pre-publication of a draft “Regulation for Peru’s geothermal sector”, Peru’s Ministry of Mines and Energy announces “substantial changes” to the Law on Geothermal Resources.

The law provides standards for the utilization of geothermal resoruces of soil and basement in the national territory of Peru.

The draft argues that a new regulation of Law No. 26,848, is necessary to reorganize and develope the various aspects regulating the rational development of geothermal resources to ensure energy supply necessary for economic growth, the welfare of the population and the efficient diversification of the country’s energy sources, cautious development of those activities, access and issues related to competition.

Included in the draft is a note to obligations of investors that want to utilize the country’s geothermal resources.
