The initial results of tests following drilling for geothermal in the Municipality of Sintiki in Central Macedonia in the Northern part of Greece, close to the border of Bulgaria, are promising so local news in late February 2022. This project is implemented by the Hellenic Authority of Geologic and Mining research (EAGME) and funded by the NSRF, which means that there is no financial burden for the Municipality of Sintiki and includes the drilling of large diameter research wells to investigate the geothermal conditions in the northern part of the Sidirokastro field.

The first drilling was completed at the end of October 2021 and reached a depth of about 200 meters, with results that are encouraging, as it detected fluids with a temperature of about 75 degrees Celsius. The drilling program will continue in March, with the aim of investigating both the temperature conditions of the area and the capacity, as expressed by the supply.

Both the Mayor of Sintiki and the President of the Community Council of Haropou stressed that they are following the geothermal research with interest, wishing its results to give the opportunity to turn geothermal energy into a lever of economic development of the wider region.

For their part, the representatives of EAGME thanked Mr. Domouchtsidis and Mr. Meladinis once again for their direct support and encouragement in the whole effort and noted that their goal is to use the results of the geothermal research and offer perspectives. development in the local community.
