Private companies wanting to invest in Mexico: "The fields that are not awarded to CFE or assigned during Round One can be requested by a private party"

Mexico wants to develop the massive geothermal potential that remains untapped. Following the successful round zero for geothermal last July, where the Ministry of Energy, the SENER awarded 5 concessions to CFE, the public commission for energy.

Now, the government has now announced that “Round One” for geothermal will likely happen this month, and will be “awarding private companies concessions for 30 years and permits for up to 150km2 for three years in the case of exploration” according to Renewable Energy Mexico.

In essence, “the fields that are not awarded to CFE or assigned during Round One can be requested by a private party, and the granting will depend, among other things, on the requesting party’s financial and technical capabilities.” says the same source.
