El Salvador based state-owned LaGeo is seeking expressions of interest of interested parties on the construction of geothermal power plants and related infrastructure development and services for development at two geothermal fields in the country.

State-owned geothermal energy company LaGeo has released requests for expressions of interest for a series of services related to the development of geothermal power projects at the geothermal fields of Chinameca and San Vicente in El Salvador.

The project runs under planned financing through the World Bank to “Increase of Geothermal Energy for a Sustainable Economic Recovery from the COVID-19 Crisis in El Salvador” PID: 170089 with the objective of “Construction and assembly of two geothermal plants, and all their related services.”

LaGEO S.A. de C.V., a company dedicated to the production of electrical energy through geothermal resources in El Salvador, is negotiating a loan with the World Bank for the construction and assembly of two condensing geothermal plants:

  1. 25 MW geothermal plant in the Chinameca Geothermal Field
  2. 10 MW geothermal plant in the San Vicente Geothermal Field.

The scope of construction of both geothermal plants includes all civil, mechanical, and electrical works associated with the installation of the turbine and generator, BoP, and substation of the plant. Also, the drilling of production and reinjection wells is included, requiring the supply of drilling materials and procurement of specialized services associated with the drilling of geothermal wells. Both projects will be developed in the period 2021-2023.

Those companies that are interested and require more information, consult the requests for expression of interest for the processes listed below:

  1. Construction of power plants and electrical substation (pdf)
  2. Directional drilling services and completion of geothermal wells (pdf)
  3. Air drilling services for geothermal wells (pdf)
  4. Supply of drilling materials for geothermal wells (pdf)
  5. Cementing services for geothermal wells (pdf)
  6. Supply for H cement (pdf)

Additional information will be shared with companies that respond, and their data will be included in our registry of potential providers to be included in the procurement process.
